service protection direct complaint
I worked for Service Protection Direct, and yes it is a scam, the directive that we were given was to sell at any cost, no matter what the cost. They have a way of getting around any repair over $2,500. Robert Bentrup dose not exist, he is a fictional person, which is made up of two of the owners names. So they have lied to you before you even call to find out what they can do for you. They have your VIN number for your vehicle already, which is illegal. Being a previous employee the best way the I can describe the company, is a modern day digital sweat shop. Not only are they screwing the consumer, but they are also screwing the employees. I quit because I could not stand the fact that I was screwing people completely out of their money any longer, several of my clients that I had sold policies to had been denied their right to a claim. I had refused to sell a policy to a potential client, because the client had told me at the end of the conversation that she and her husband would have to go without their medication for a few months to be able to afford the policy, at that point I had told the client that I could not in good faith sell her the policy at this time. My headset was ripped from my head by one of the owners, I was cursed up one side of the office and down the other. Even though the policy was not sold to the client, because of my refusal I was made to pay for the policy out of my own pocket $3,800. They currently own me allot of money. When I had quit I tried to grab my documents proving how much money they owed me, they made me leave immediately, when I asked if I was going to be paid for my sales, which my commissions still currently owed are $8,298.39, I was told to prove it, well unfortunately I cant, I am out two months of wages that I will never see. So in ending Service Protection Direct, is a scam they will not pay out your claim if it is above a set amount, their powertrain warranty which is called a Duralube is a complete scam and does not cover anything, they have a $1,500 bridge from the price that they tell you, and they try and make you buy on the first phone call, and they will bully you until you buy from them on the first phone call, and if you ever want to cancel your policy, you will get the run around, more bullying, and a series of hang ups before you even get close to canceling your policy. I write this to you the consumer because you need to know, its your money and your car, and you will be paying for for a long time. So choose wisely.

Melissa,

The only supervisors I know of are Gene Bentrup, Jim Morningstar, Eddie Loetel and Robert Corbett (owner).

Go to the BBB, the atty. general (who has a lawsuit against SPD right now)

Good luck getting someone to talk with you. It seems that hanging up is much easier than offering a truthful answer.

They sold my 75 year-old mom a 4 year plan for $3000!!! She received a flyer and called for info, before she knew it they were scaring her into believing that if she had car problems it would cost her $80-$120 per hour for repairs. She has a 2000 Grand Marquis and she only drove it 165 miles last year. I called the same day and cancelled the deal. I spoke with Eddie Lotel (?sp) who was hesitant at first but assured me that he was not aware of her situation and wouldn't have sold her the contract if he had known how old she was and how little she drove. He did try to sell me a month-to-month plan for her, which I declined. I would be very cautious with this company...

It sounds like a scam to me but I do not care if Service Protection Direct is a scam or not. They will not leave me alone. I have received several "Final Notice" junk mail letters from them. They also call my cell phone about every day with an automated message with my Final Offer to extend my warranty. Even though I tell them to stop calling they will not stop.

I tried to get in touch with Robert Bentrup or somebody in his department to discuss the letter I received. I was hung up on by

Scott Gilmartin at ext 1103. He called himself a Supervisor. Do you know how I can find out who is the owner if this company so I may address my issue further and begin to expose them for what they are?
